Welcome to our Website about the Tread Lightly Caravan – New Zealand's mobile environmental education classroom.
The Tread Lightly Caravan (TLC) is a new mobile environmental classroom, jam-packed with lots of fun, interactive exhibits and experiences. All of the experiences and exhibits have one key educational message – our every day life style choices make a difference and we need to work together to protect our environment.
The TLC will visit both schools and community events. The target age for our educational material is 8-12 years old. But we have lots of interesting activities and educational material for age ranges from 0 through to 90 (and beyond).
Approximately 30,000 people will visit the TLC every year.
Construction of the TLC began in June this year and we are are planning to be out on the road visiting Auckland schools, community facilities and events, by the middle of 2010. Where possible, the TLC will be powered by renewable energy sources including solar panels and second generation (waste based) biofuel.
Visitors to the TLC will leave with a clear understanding of the environmental consequences of their individual actions and be inspired to live more sustainable life styles.
