Tread Lightly also assists schools to “take action” or to extend student learning following a visit by the Tread Lightly Caravan or the Tread Lightly Drain Game.
Whānau “recycle right” workshops
With the support of Visy, Tread Lightly is offering a free Whānau "recycle right" workshop to schools in Auckland.
The workshops are designed to provide a "snapshot" on how to recycle correctly at home. The workshops are normally held from 2.30 - 3pm for parents as they are waiting at school to pick their children up. The workshops can then be repeated after 3pm for school staff.
Through a collaboration with New Zealand Corrections Department, parents attending a workshop are also gifted a beautiful reusable bag made by people completing community service hours.
The recycling workshops are available for any school in Auckland to book in 2022. Please email [email protected] to enquire about a workshop.
Litter Blitz
The Litter Blitz initiative has become a great addition to the Tread Lightly programme as a way for students to “take action” and to show leadership in their community against litter and illegal dumping.
A Blitz involves every student, teacher and as many parent and community volunteers as possible, to pick up litter from neighbouring streets. Tread Lightly undertakes all the organisation, supplies all the equipment and provides a celebration BBQ for students and volunteers.
Tread Lightly has organised Litter Blitzes with nine schools across Auckland, hosting 4,578 students, teachers, parents and community volunteers, with 2,606 kg of litter and illegal dumping collected.
(Note: A Litter Blitz event is only offered to schools if funding has been secured)
