Post Visit Evaluation Research – Great Results!

Recently we have had one of our educators return to schools several weeks/months after the TLC’s visit to carry out an evaluation of which, if any, environmental messages have ‘stuck’ with the children.

We are thrilled to be able to say that almost all children have made small but important changes to their everyday living (and also influenced their families). These include:

*Turning off the tap while cleaning their teeth

*Switching off lights, and appliances at the
power points

*Changing to eco friendly light bulbs

*Planting vegetables

*Starting a worm farm

Tread Lightly Caravan at the Eye on Nature Family Day - 26 March

On Saturday 23 March we attended the ‘Eye on Nature’ family day at the Botanical Gardens hosted by the  Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust.  The focus this year was on edibles, with display gardens from surrounding schools and a very live exhibit on Bees.  Many families visited us and one family even came from Hawaii!  We hope to visit their schools soon. ... read more


Tread Lightly Caravan visits Eco Day hosted by EcoMatters - 3 March

The TLC staff had great day taking part in Ecoday, hosted by Ecomatters on February 28th at Olympic Park in New Lynn. There were lots of visitors to the caravan who had a great time exploring our exhibits and gathering information to take back to their schools. New TravelWise Exhibit for the Tread Lightly Caravan - 18 February

New for 2013 - a TravelWise exhibit has been added to the Tread Lightly Caravan programme.  Sponsored by Auckland Transport's TravelWise Programme, the "TravelSafe" game is a pinball style game which challenges students to make safe travel choices to reach their destination.  Based on the old fashioned coin drop games from fish and chip shops, this exhibit is sure to cause a bit of competition! ... read more


3M Confirms Sponsorship for the Third Year Running - 23 December

Tread Lightly Caravan at the Sustainable City Showcase - 28 November

On November 26th the Tread Lightly Caravan participated in the Sustainable City Showcase at The Cloud on Auckland’s Queen’s Wharf. We were located in the kid’s area and just outside the building. We look forward to this annual event growing in the years to come! ... read more


Tread Lightly staff visit RCN EWaste Recycling Facility - 23 November

In November 2012, the Tread Lightly Staff visited the RCN EWaste Recycling Facility to learn more about the process of recycling New Zealand's electronic waste.  It was incredible to see the huge volume of CRT televisions lined up to have the CRT tube split, so far in advance of the final switch to digital TV in Auckland.  We hope that in the future retailers and producers of these electronics will assume more responsibility when it comes to their final disposal. ... read more


Air New Zealand/ Kids Restore Sponsorship - Sept. 2012 - 19 October

We are delighted to announce that the TLC has received operational funding to visit a significant number of classes at South Auckland schools. This area was chosen as many children of Air New Zealand ground staff attend these schools. Kids Restore NZ allows schools to apply for support for environmental projects that they are keen to undertake. This could be anything from replanting a waste area, developing a wetland, cleaning up a stream or beach or any other type of environmental project. Ministry for the Environment gives major boost to TLC -May 2012 - 19 October

Following rigorous application procedures the Urban EcoLiving Charitable Trust was granted a major contribution to its operational funding for a 12 month period - from mid may 2012 through to 2013. UELCT's Executive Director, Gael Olgilvie comments, "this funding allows us to operate fully right through to May next year, assisting visits to schools but also includes the necessary maintenance and upgrades to the Tread Lightly Caravan, its exhibits and website. Travelwise Programme sponsorship secured - May-Sept 2012 - 19 October

Auckland Transport's Travelwise programme generously sponsored the Tread Lightly Caravan to visit a number of schools during terms 2 and 3 of 2012. It was wonderful to be able to offer the Tread Lightly experience at no cost to these students. The Travelwise programme encourages children and their parents to reduce their carbon footprint by walking to school with it's walking school bus programme. To accompany this, there is also a strong focus on road safety education. The TLC visit was able to reinforce these messages to the children. 3M Confirms TLC Sponsorship for Second Year - 21 February

We are thrilled to announce that a proportion of the TLC's operational funding for 2012 has been secured, once again, from 3M New Zealand - one of NZ's leading companies in the innovative technology sector.  With 3M's initial operational support for our project last year, the TLC was able to start its visiting programme to schools throughout the Auckland area and this additional funding for 2012 secures a good start to this year's busy school schedule. ... read more


Tread Lightly Caravan official launch, November 2011 - 16 January

The Tread Lightly Caravan was officially launched, at a ceremony in Downtown Auckland, on November 3rd 2011.   Approximately 100 guests attended the event including National Party, Labour and Green Party politicians, central and local government officials and representatives from supporting companies and the media.  The official opening speech was delivered by National MP for the North Shore, Maggie Barry, on behalf of the Minister for the Environment, Nick Smith.  The Bayfield Primary School "Ecowarriers" attended to demonstrate the exciting interactive exhibits to the guests.  ... read more


Tread Lightly Caravan visits the Starship school - June 2011 - 14 July

A virtual version of the Tread Lightly Caravan visited the Starship hospital recently.  The caravan itself could not fit in the grounds but the kids that attended had a great time with the computer game - My Environmental Footprint, and also our life sized Geckos and Vines Game. ... read more
